Official minimum requirements
Hugo documents supported install paths and optional tooling but no numerical whole-host CPU or RAM minimum.
Do not invent a minimum for a static-site generator. Large image-heavy sites or frequent CI builds justify more CPU and memory.
| Requirement | Official minimum | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| No numerical official minimum published | Build time depends on project complexity. | |
| No numerical official minimum published | Large builds and images raise memory use. | |
| Multiple OS/architecture targets | Use matching release artifact. | |
| ghcr.io/gohugoio/hugo | Current official GHCR container. | |
| linux/amd64 and linux/arm64 | Current package listing includes both. | |
| Only required for specific workflows | Modules, source builds, or Sass can require them. | |
| Not required | No GPU requirement for normal builds. |
When to upgrade your hardware
Slow builds
Memory spikes
Repository growth
Plan hardware growth with confidence
SSD workspace
Keep source, cache, and output on SSD.
SSDMore RAM
Useful for large image pipelines.
Higher-RAM hostLarger project storage
Add capacity for source assets.
Larger SSD/HDD poolStronger CPU
Most direct upgrade for frequent or complex builds.
Higher-throughput CPUCan it run on ZimaOS?
Install Hugo from the ZimaOS App Store
A specific public Hugo App Store page is verified.
Open Hugo in the ZimaOS App Store ↗Use Hugo's official container
The project publishes an official GHCR image.
Open Hugo container package ↗Match tools to the site workflow
Install Git, Go, or Dart Sass only when needed.
Open Hugo Linux installation docs ↗Zima hardware for Hugo
Hugo is usually light enough for ZimaBoard; upgrade for build throughput, image processing, or CI frequency.
Choose by workload
A low-power ZimaBoard has ample headroom.
CPU and memory matter more as repeated builds increase.
Zima product guidance is a practical workload mapping, not an upstream hardware certification.
| Zima hardware | Best for | Example workload | Core configuration | Recommended boundary | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZimaBoard 2 832 | Light self-hosted services and small persistent workloads | Single-app or small multi-app home-server deployments |
|
8 GB RAM and a 4-core N150 limit heavier CI, databases, and high-concurrency work | Get Now |
| ZimaBoard 2 1664 | More containers and memory-heavier services on a low-power CPU | Moderate multi-app workloads |
|
CPU throughput is unchanged from the 832 model | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Pro | CPU-heavy, higher-concurrency, and database-heavy workloads | Builds, indexing, many connections, or demanding containers |
|
16 GB RAM can still limit very large builds, databases, or local AI | Get Now |

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful
Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.
Very good!!
I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.
Great innovation for mini server!
It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.
Frequently asked questions
How much RAM does Hugo need?
Hugo does not publish a universal numerical whole-host RAM minimum.
How many CPU cores does Hugo need?

Yes. The project publishes ghcr.io/gohugoio/hugo.
Does Hugo need Go installed?
Only for tasks such as building from source or using Hugo modules.
Does Hugo need Git or Dart Sass?
Only when the project workflow uses those features.
Can ZimaBoard 2 832 run Hugo?
Yes for typical personal sites and moderate build workloads.
Does Hugo need a GPU?
No GPU requirement is documented.
When should I choose ZimaCube 2 Pro?
When large projects, heavy image processing, or frequent CI builds make CPU throughput important.
