Official minimum requirements
Channels DVR Server publishes explicit minimum and recommended hardware requirements.
The official minimum is 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, and a large HDD. Recommended guidance adds Intel Quick Sync, 1 GB RAM, and a 2 TB HDD for more than 250 hours of recordings.
| Requirement | Official minimum | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GHz | 64-bit Intel or 32/64-bit ARM. | |
| 512 MB | 1 GB recommended. | |
| Large HDD | HDTV averages about 8 GB/hour. | |
| 2 TB HDD | For over 250 hours of recordings. | |
| Intel Quick Sync | Recommended for hardware transcoding. | |
| Host networking | Required for Bonjour DVR discovery. | |
| No discrete GPU required | Intel Quick Sync is the recommended acceleration path. |

Choose by workload
ZimaBoard 2 832 easily exceeds the published CPU/RAM minimum.
Drive capacity becomes more important than app RAM.
Zima recommendations below preserve the official minimum/recommended values and then map them to practical recording capacity.
| Zima hardware | Best for | Example workload | Core configuration | Recommended boundary | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZimaBoard 2 832 | Light self-hosted services and small single-node apps | Small containerized workloads |
|
8 GB RAM can limit larger databases, search stacks, and enterprise apps | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Standard | Storage-heavy recordings, logs, attachments, and archives | Large persistent data sets |
|
8 GB RAM may be insufficient for database-heavy stacks | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Pro | CPU-heavier, database-heavier, and higher-concurrency services | Larger production-style self-hosted workloads |
|
16 GB RAM can still be low for larger enterprise monitoring/search/control-plane deployments | Get Now |

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful
Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.
Very good!!
I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.
Great innovation for mini server!
It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.
