Cloudron hardware requirements at a glance
Size Cloudron from verified upstream requirements first, then add headroom for workload and persistent data.
- RAM
- 2 GB minimum
- CPU
- x64 host required; no numerical core minimum published
- Storage
- 20 GB minimum
- OS
- Fresh Ubuntu 26.04 x64 in current install docs
- Virtualization constraint
- Docker, LXC, ARM, and OpenVZ are not supported
- Best Zima path
- Dedicated VM on sufficiently capable x86-64 hardware
From official requirements to the right setup
Start with current upstream facts for Cloudron, then size the real workload rather than copying generic container or app-store labels.

Official minimum requirements
Cloudron publishes explicit minimum RAM and disk requirements and clear platform restrictions.
The current installation guide requires at least 2 GB RAM and 20 GB disk, x64, and a fresh supported Ubuntu server; Docker, LXC, ARM, and OpenVZ are unsupported.
| Requirement | Official minimum | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| 2 GB | Installed applications require additional memory. | |
| 20 GB | Apps and backups require more. | |
| x64 | ARM is not supported. | |
| Fresh Ubuntu 26.04 x64 | Current documented baseline. | |
| 80 and 443 must not be blocked | Required for web access and certificates. | |
| ARM, LXC, Docker, OpenVZ | Cloudron expects a dedicated host/VM. | |
| Not required | No GPU baseline. |
When to upgrade your hardware
More installed apps
Backup growth
Host pressure
Plan hardware growth with confidence
Dedicated VM RAM
Allocate more than the 2 GB minimum as apps are added.
More VM RAMSSD system disk
Use reliable SSD/NVMe for the Cloudron VM.
SSD/NVMeApp/backup capacity
Add larger storage for app data and backups.
ZimaCube storageStronger host CPU
Useful when many Cloudron apps share the VM.
ZimaCube 2 ProCan it run on ZimaOS?
Do not install Cloudron as a normal ZimaOS Docker app
Cloudron explicitly does not support Docker or LXC and expects a dedicated host.
Custom install Cloudron in the ZimaOS app ↗Use a dedicated x86-64 VM instead
A VM can preserve the dedicated-host model if the hypervisor and guest meet Cloudron requirements.
Open Cloudron installation docs ↗Keep ports 80/443 available
Cloudron expects direct control of web ingress and certificates.
Review Cloudron installation requirements ↗Zima hardware for Cloudron
Cloudron is an operating platform, not a normal application container. The Zima hardware must be sized as a virtualization host for a dedicated Cloudron VM.
Choose by workload
Allocate at least the official 2 GB RAM and 20 GB disk, plus host overhead.
Scale for aggregate app memory, CPU, app data, and backups.
Direct Docker/LXC deployment contradicts upstream support guidance.
| Zima hardware | Best for | Example workload | Core configuration | Recommended boundary | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZimaBoard 2 1664 | Memory-heavier container stacks and moderate databases | Multi-service apps with larger RAM headroom |
|
CPU remains the 4-core N150, so compute-heavy workloads can still be CPU-limited | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Pro | CPU-heavier, database-heavier, and higher-concurrency services | Larger production-style self-hosted workloads |
|
16 GB RAM can still be low for larger enterprise monitoring/search/control-plane deployments | Get Now |

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful
Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.
Very good!!
I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.
Great innovation for mini server!
It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.
