Always-on power cost can change the ranking when one platform idles far above another over several years.
Price the full day-one configuration and a realistic ownership period. Include required networking, storage expansion, and backup hardware rather than the base chassis alone. Score candidates against fixed Plex hardware requirements so a larger headline specification cannot change the decision criteria midway through the comparison.
Use Recovery as a Tie-Breaker
Two candidates that meet the workload can still differ dramatically in how easily Plex state, storage, and service identity move after failure. Recovery is a legitimate decision axis, not an afterthought.
A tested restore path is more valuable than a theoretical backup when hardware replacement is part of the buying decision.
For the finalists, describe how you would rebuild Plex on replacement hardware within your downtime target. Give the higher score to the design with the clearer, more standard recovery path.
