From official requirements to the right setup

Start with current upstream facts for Swing Music, then size the actual workload rather than copying generic container or app-store labels.

  1. Official requirements

  2. Confirm your needs

  3. Leave room to grow

  4. Run it on ZimaOS

Check every playback client

  • Music library size
  • Lossless vs compressed audio
  • Concurrent clients
  • Library rescan frequency
  • FFmpeg silence-skip use
  • /config persistence
  • Music backup retention
  • Other containers

Official minimum requirements

Swing Music documents installation, Docker, port, storage mounts, and development runtime, but does not publish a numerical whole-host CPU, RAM, or disk minimum.

Swing Music upstream repository

Do not invent a host minimum from Python development requirements. The practical sizing variables are local music capacity, scan/metadata work, client count, and optional FFmpeg processing.

RequirementOfficial minimumWhat this supports
No numerical official minimum publishedLibrary scans and optional FFmpeg work determine compute use.
No numerical official minimum publishedDepends on library scale, clients, and host consolidation.
ghcr.io/swingmx/swingmusic:latestCurrent upstream Docker image.
1970Default application port.
/music and /configBoth are shown in the upstream Docker examples.
Python 3.11 or newerDevelopment/source dependency, not a host RAM requirement.
Not requiredNo GPU requirement for normal audio streaming.

When to upgrade your hardware

Slow library scans

Music archive growth

Shared-host pressure

Plan hardware growth with confidence

SSD config storage

Keep /config and application metadata on SSD.

SSD

More shared-host RAM

Useful when multiple media services share the same machine.

ZimaBoard 2 1664

Large music library

Use multi-bay storage for large lossless archives and backups.

ZimaCube 2 Standard

Higher scan throughput

A stronger CPU helps very large library scans and other co-located services.

ZimaCube 2 Pro

Can it run on ZimaOS?

Zima hardware for Swing Music

Swing Music itself is light; storage capacity and library scanning are the main reasons to move beyond ZimaBoard.

Choose by workload

Small to medium music library

Use ZimaBoard 2 832 with the library on SATA storage.

Large lossless archive or broader media stack

Drive capacity and shared-host resources become more important.

ZimaOS homepage visibility is not treated as proof of a specific one-click App Store page under the SOP.

Zima hardware Best for Example workload Core configuration Recommended boundary Next step
ZimaBoard 2 832 Light self-hosted services and small databases Single-app or small multi-app deployments
CPU
Intel N150, 4 cores, up to 3.6 GHz
Memory
8 GB LPDDR5
Storage
32 GB eMMC plus 2x SATA 3.0 and PCIe 3.0 expansion
Network
Dual 2.5GbE
Acceleration
PCIe expansion; no built-in discrete GPU
8 GB RAM and a 4-core N150 limit larger databases, AI stacks, and heavy multi-service workloads Get Now
ZimaBoard 2 1664 Memory-heavier services and larger multi-container stacks Workloads that benefit from 16 GB RAM without needing a much faster CPU
CPU
Intel N150, 4 cores, up to 3.6 GHz
Memory
16 GB LPDDR5
Storage
64 GB eMMC plus 2x SATA 3.0 and PCIe 3.0 expansion
Network
Dual 2.5GbE
Acceleration
PCIe expansion; no built-in discrete GPU
CPU throughput remains the same 4-core N150, so compute-heavy workloads can still be CPU-limited Get Now
ZimaCube 2 Standard Storage-heavy media, archives, logs, attachments, and backups Workloads where drive bays and capacity matter more than peak CPU throughput
CPU
Intel Core i3-1215U
Memory
8 GB RAM
Storage
256 GB system storage, 6 HDD bays, SSD expansion
Network
Dual 2.5GbE
Acceleration
Storage and PCIe expansion
8 GB RAM can be less suitable than ZimaBoard 2 1664 for memory-heavy applications Get Now
ZimaCube 2 Pro CPU-heavier, database-heavier, and higher-concurrency workloads Larger SQL/search workloads, many users, or broader server consolidation
CPU
Intel Core i5-1235U, 10 cores / 12 threads
Memory
16 GB RAM
Storage
256 GB system storage, 6 HDD bays, up to 4 SSD slots
Network
10GbE + 2.5GbE
Acceleration
Higher CPU throughput plus PCIe/SSD expansion
16 GB RAM can still constrain very large AI or enterprise workloads Get Now

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful

Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.

Very good!!

I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.

Great innovation for mini server!

It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.

Avaliaรงรฃo ZimaBoard 2

Construรญ um servidor de uso pessoal. O desempenho estรก muito bom e funciona perfeitamente onde quer que eu esteja. A surpresa รฉ nรฃo dependermos de grandes estruturas para termos nosso prรณprio servidor de dados. Como iniciante, estou gostando bastante do ZimaOS, pois ele รฉ simples e eficiente.
