Higher pageview/custom-event volume increases database writes and storage.
High-traffic sites.
Umami requirements at a glance
Umami is lightweight for small sites, but PostgreSQL event volume and retention can become the real workload.
- RAM
- No numerical official whole-host RAM minimum published.
- CPU
- No numerical official core minimum. Event ingestion, dashboards and analytics queries determine demand.
- Node.js
- Current source-install requirements specify Node.js 18.18 or newer.
- Database
- Current official documentation requires PostgreSQL 12.14 or newer.
- Docker
- Official Docker Compose starts Umami together with a PostgreSQL database; prebuilt Umami images are also available.
- Best Zima starting point
- ZimaBoard 2 832 is a strong small-site analytics host; move to 16 GB or stronger CPU when event volume and reporting grow.
From official requirements to the right setup
Size Umami around analytics-event volume, PostgreSQL growth and query patterns.
-
Official requirements
Use the official Docker Compose setup or a prebuilt Umami image with PostgreSQL 12.14+.
-
Confirm your needs
Estimate pageview/event ingestion rate, number of tracked sites and retention period because these drive PostgreSQL growth.
-
Leave room to grow
Persist PostgreSQL data and back it up; keep the database in UTC as recommended by the official documentation.
-
Run it on ZimaOS
On ZimaOS, use Install Custom App with the official Umami Compose stack, persist PostgreSQL, map port 3000 and place the service behind HTTPS.

Official minimum requirements
Umami currently publishes runtime/database prerequisites but no numerical server hardware minimum.
Do not invent a 512 MB/1 GB official minimum from third-party guides. Current first-party documentation only fixes the Node.js and PostgreSQL prerequisites; hardware depends on event volume and retention.
| Requirement | Official minimum | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| RAM minimum | No numerical official minimum published | Event volume and PostgreSQL determine practical memory. |
| CPU minimum | No numerical official minimum published | Ingestion and analytics queries drive load. |
| Storage minimum | No numerical official minimum published | Analytics events and retention determine capacity. |
| Node.js | 18.18+ | Current source-install requirement. |
| PostgreSQL | 12.14+ | Current official database requirement. |
| Default app port | 3000 | Current install documentation. |
When to upgrade your hardware
Umami should scale when event ingestion, dashboard queries or PostgreSQL retention becomes sustained.
Tracked events grow rapidly
Large reporting windows become slow
Many sites share one instance
Long retention and analytics queries can increase PostgreSQL CPU and cache pressure.
Long-running analytics datasets.More tenants/sites increase ingestion and dashboard concurrency.
Agencies and multi-site operators.Plan hardware growth with confidence
Scale Umami around PostgreSQL rather than the Node.js web container alone.
Use SSD-backed PostgreSQL storage
Fast durable storage improves ingestion, queries and backups.
Use SATA/NVMe with ZimaBoard 2.Use ZimaBoard 2 832 for small-to-medium sites
8 GB provides generous practical headroom for Umami plus PostgreSQL.
ZimaBoard 2 832.Use 16 GB for larger analytics history
Extra RAM improves PostgreSQL cache and supports more co-hosted services.
ZimaBoard 2 1664.Use stronger CPU/storage for high event volume
Heavy ingestion and analytical queries can justify a larger platform.
ZimaCube 2 Pro.Can it run on ZimaOS?
No public official ZimaOS one-click Umami App Store detail page was verified for this guide. Use the Custom Install route unless a concrete current listing is confirmed at publish time.
Custom install Umami in ZimaOS
Use Umami's official Docker Compose stack with PostgreSQL, persist the database, map port 3000 and keep the deployment behind HTTPS.
Custom install Umami in the ZimaOS app ↗Use Umami's official installation guide
Follow the current upstream deployment documentation rather than relying on outdated third-party examples.
Review Umami deployment guidance ↗Review Umami's official repository
Use the current upstream requirements and dependency versions when preparing the container stack.
Review Umami requirements ↗Choose Zima hardware for Umami
Umami is light for small sites; PostgreSQL event volume determines when larger Zima hardware becomes useful.
Is this small-site analytics or a larger high-retention event workload?

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful
Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.
Very good!!
I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.
Great innovation for mini server!
It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.
