Official minimum requirements
Axigen publishes numerical minimum hardware requirements, so these can be used directly as official baseline facts.
The 2 GB figure is installation/configuration space, not mailbox capacity. Production sizing must separately include message storage, indexes, queues, logs, backups, and mail-delivery requirements.
| Requirement | Official minimum | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| x86-64-v2 or later | Intel Nehalem (2008)+ or AMD Bulldozer (2011)+ generation support. | |
| 4 GB | Current Axigen documentation. | |
| 2 GB free | For installation and default configuration files only. | |
| 64-bit supported platforms | Check the current supported-version matrix before deployment. | |
| Depends on accounts, domains, mailboxes, and message sizes | Not covered by the 2 GB installation figure. | |
| SSD for queue/domain/object storage | High-performance servers can separate message storage to larger RAID volumes. | |
| Not required | Mail serving does not require GPU acceleration. |
When to upgrade your hardware
Mailbox growth
Queue/security load
Deliverability constraints
Plan hardware growth with confidence
SSD metadata/queue
Keep queues, domains, object storage and active metadata on SSD.
SSD/NVMeMore RAM
Useful for larger mailbox counts, caches, webmail and security services.
ZimaBoard 2 1664Mailbox capacity
Use multi-bay storage for retained mail and backups.
ZimaCube 2 StandardHigher-throughput CPU
Useful for larger concurrent mail and security workloads.

Custom install Axigen in ZimaOS
No specific public official ZimaOS App Store page was verified, so the SOP requires the Custom Install route.
Custom install Axigen in the ZimaOS app ↗Use a currently supported Axigen platform
Verify the current 64-bit Linux/Windows support matrix and x86-64-v2 CPU requirement before installation.
Open Axigen supported platforms ↗Validate mail-server network prerequisites
A mail server also needs correct public DNS, PTR, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and SMTP reachability; these are operational prerequisites, not hardware.
Open Axigen requirements ↗Zima hardware for Axigen
Axigen can fit modest x86 hardware, but reliable mail hosting is driven by mailbox storage, queue/security workload, DNS, public-IP reputation and SMTP reachability.
Choose by workload
ZimaBoard 2 832 meets the published 4 GB RAM floor and x86 generation requirement, but use real storage and verify deliverability.
Storage and CPU/RAM become more important.
Zima hardware mapping does not imply that a residential connection or ISP policy is suitable for public mail hosting.
| Zima hardware | Best for | Example workload | Core configuration | Recommended boundary | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZimaBoard 2 832 | Light web, SQL, mail, and small developer services | Single-app or small multi-app workloads |
|
8 GB RAM and 4-core CPU limit larger databases, CI builds, and browser grids | Get Now |
| ZimaBoard 2 1664 | Memory-heavier web, database, CI controller, and collaboration workloads | Moderate multi-container workloads |
|
CPU is still a 4-core N150; more RAM does not raise build or browser-execution throughput | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Standard | Storage-heavy mail, repositories, attachments, and media | Large persistent datasets where drive bays matter most |
|
8 GB RAM can be less suitable than ZimaBoard 2 1664 for memory-heavy services | Get Now |
| ZimaCube 2 Pro | CPU-heavy CI, larger SQL/search workloads, and higher concurrency | Build orchestration, larger databases, and consolidated services |
|
16 GB RAM can still constrain very large enterprise or browser-grid workloads | Get Now |

Zima Blade Little yet Powerful
Maybe I am not digital natives but I live with PCs since 12 years old in 1984 when IBM PC clone come to my home. Many years have passed and many operating system I've tried. For me Zima blade and CasaOS was a quantum leap for home PC enthusiast and server lab machine to make me stay curious and relevant for this era.
Very good!!
I use ZimaCube Pro as 5th Proxmox cluster node. It runs several VMs and containers, including a VM with GPU passthrough to run a self-hosted LLM. A specific LXC container runs a Samba server for NAS capabilities using four of six RAID 6 SATA HDDs with ZFS.
Great innovation for mini server!
It is very useful and makes a powerful mini server for many purposes, including university and college students in engineering and electronics. Thank you so much for making this server.
Frequently asked questions
What is Axigen's official minimum RAM?
Axigen currently publishes 4 GB RAM as its minimum.
What CPU architecture does Axigen require?
Current Axigen packages require 64-bit x86 with the x86-64-v2 instruction set or later.
Is 2 GB enough storage for an Axigen mail server?
No. The official 2 GB figure is only for installation and default configuration; mailbox/message storage must be sized separately.
What storage layout does Axigen recommend?
For higher-performance deployments, Axigen recommends SSD for queues, domains and object storage, with message storage sized separately.
Does Axigen need a public IP and DNS configuration?
A production mail server needs appropriate forward/reverse DNS and mail authentication records, and must be able to use the required SMTP ports.
Can ZimaBoard 2 832 meet the published baseline?
Its 8 GB RAM exceeds the 4 GB minimum and its x86 CPU is newer than the required instruction baseline, but storage and mail-networking requirements still need separate validation.
Does Axigen need a GPU?
No.
When should I choose ZimaCube 2?
When mailbox retention, backups, or higher concurrency justify more storage and CPU throughput.
