Seamless Data Management with ZimaCube: Jayrod’s Journey
Since our first batch of ZimaCubes were delivered to customers, the feedback has been overwhelming. Among our early adopters was a veteran computer and storage enthusiast named Jayrod, who was also one of our original supporters. For him, ZimaCube was more than just a storage device; it was a gateway to seamless data managementand an absolute guarantee of privacy. In this blog post, we will dive into his insights and first-hand experience with ZimaCube.

The following content is narrated by Jayrod:
When it comes to personal data storage and management, the market is flooded with options. At first I was drawn to ZimaCube for its perfect fusion of ease-of-use and ethical computing. Having now received my ZimaCube for a few days, I am eager to share my early impressions and experiences with this selection.
Why ZimaCube: A NAS Solution With Open Operation System
My journey began with a simple need – to build a NAS running ZFS without relying on USB-connected disk drives. Despite the emergence of other products like the various Ugreen ones, ZimaCube’s excellent designs under good price kept it as one of my top picks. Its reputation for making strong and reliable network storage systems is really reassuring. Nowadays, companies are all about plug-and-play computing systems, but I trust the older, proven ones more because of my experience as a system administrator. It’s great that ZimaCube supports different operating systems like Debian or FreeBSD. I like using tools like pfSense and TrueNAS, but being able to choose and install the operating system I want is super important to me.
Why ZimaCube: Privacy and Supportive Community
In a world trying to break free from the clutches of corporations like Google and Microsoft, ZimaCube offers a breath of fresh air. The recent LastPass breach is a stark reminder of why privacy matters and reinforces my decision to support companies that prioritize it. IceWhale’s commitment to openness, transparency, and community collaboration resonates with my values.I used to build PCs when I was younger, but I don’t have time for that stuff anymore, so it is nice to be able to have the options IceWhale offers.
Why ZimaCube: It Solves Real World Problems
My current setup involves a refurbished ThinkCentre running FreeBSD with an SSD RAID for Home Assistant and other services. But since it can’t add more storage without hitting USB roadblocks, I started looking for other options. With ZimaCube, I plan to create an SSD array for VMs, quick-access storage for photos, and spinning disks for long-term storage. The N100 model will serve as an offsite backup—something I’ve longed to implement. I chose ZimaCube for its seamless blend of functionality and values. ZimaCube isn’t just about ideals, it solves practical problems. It’s not just a storage unit; it’s a statement of digital independence.
