The original July 2024 tutorial explained how to configure a static IP with nmcli from the ZimaOS console. That was useful at the time, but the thread itself later became outdated: Zima-Giorgio pointed readers to a new method in January 2025, and by February 2025 community members explicitly noted that static IP configuration could be done directly in Settings.
Current ZimaOS documentation now confirms the Web UI workflow. For normal installations, use the dashboard instead of the old console commands.
Current Method: Settings > Network
According to the current ZimaOS networking documentation:
- Open the ZimaOS dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Network.
- Select the Ethernet interface you want to configure.
- Switch the mode from DHCP to Manual.
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server.
- Save the configuration.

Your Dashboard Session May Disconnect
The current documentation warns that the change takes effect immediately. If you assign an address on a different subnet or simply change the server IP, the existing browser session may disconnect because it is still pointing to the old address.
Reconnect using the new IP shown on the connected ZimaOS display or the address you configured.
Why the Old nmcli Tutorial Should Not Be the Default Anymore
The 2024 thread included console commands for modifying a NetworkManager profile. Later replies exposed two problems with using that post as a long-term guide:
nmcli command failing with an unknown connection error, one reason the old CLI tutorial became fragile for less experienced users.- the forum editor converted normal quotation marks into typographic quotes, which broke copied commands for some users;
- the Web UI eventually gained a supported static-IP workflow, making the old command sequence unnecessary for normal configuration.
Because the project workflow requires only official or confirmed commands to be promoted as technical steps, this page intentionally does not reproduce the obsolete community command block.
Router DHCP Reservation Is Another Valid Strategy
One community participant solved their practical need by reserving a fixed address for the Zima device in the router instead of configuring a manual address on ZimaOS itself.
This is not the same as a static address configured on the server, but it can provide a stable LAN IP while keeping the ZimaOS interface in DHCP mode.
Current Documentation Focuses on Physical Ethernet Interfaces
The current networking page describes physical Ethernet ports, link status, link speed, DHCP, and manual IPv4 settings. That is important context for older Wi-Fi-related community threads: a static IP feature in the current UI does not automatically mean every wireless adapter is officially supported.
ZimaOS Static IP FAQ
Do I still need nmcli to set a static IP on ZimaOS?
No for the normal current workflow. Static IP configuration is available in Settings > Network.
Why did copied commands from the old thread fail?
One reply found that the forum had converted normal quotation marks into curly quotation marks, changing the command syntax.
Can I reserve the ZimaOS IP in my router instead?
Yes. A DHCP reservation can keep the device on a predictable address while ZimaOS itself remains configured for DHCP.
When did the CLI method become obsolete?
The thread was already describing the commands as obsolete by February 2025 after the static-IP option became available in Settings.
