Data autonomy and secure backup are core requirements in my daily work and life. To build a compact, low-power off-site backup solution for my home TrueNAS system, I ultimately chose ZimaBoard 2.   1. Core System: TrueNAS SCALE, a professional storage system perfectly compatible with the ZFS file system, providing stable underlying support for data replication and storage;

Core Services: As the receiving end of ZFS replication tasks, it synchronizes data from the master server; enables SMB sharing for easy local verification of backup data integrity; and, in conjunction with Tailscale, enables secure remote connections without exposing ports, making remote management of off-site backups safer and more convenient.

Practical Suggestions and Avoidance Tips: I highly recommend Tailscale, which simplifies and expedites off-site backup replication operations while maximizing network security; it is also crucial to remember not to underestimate the heat dissipation requirements of mechanical hard drives in a closed chassis. Proper heat dissipation design is key to the long-term stable operation of storage devices, which is the core reason for my custom 3D chassis.

User Experience: Extremely Low Power Consumption is a Surprising Thing, and Data Security Brings Peace of Mind

The actual user experience of the ZimaBoard 2 completely exceeded my expectations. Two core highlights make this device an excellent choice for a professional backup server:
